Bathroom Design

Our clients had originally intended to sell and move to a larger house. Although their current residence had the right number of rooms, the bathrooms were cramped and cluttered. And with two small children adding their bath toys to the mix the situation was becoming critical.

But the exercise of calculating the costs of a step up the property ladder brought with it another idea. If they could upgrade their two existing bathroom designs for the same cost as the Stamp Duty payable on their target properties, they would improve their lifestyle, add value to their property and save money in the process.

Their original intention was to make the small bathroom, accessible from the hallway, their main bathroom with a shower cubicle. The larger bathroom, en-suite to the main bedroom, was to be the main family bathroom.

We immediately turned this onto its head, arguing that the en-suite should be the private sanctuary for the adults. For this to work we needed to design practicality as well as style into the smaller bathroom.

Bathroom design 1

A mirror to the ceiling above the toilet maximises the space. The bath is retained with a hand held shower head, perfect for pressure washing even the most reluctant children. The mosaic tiling adds texture without clutter and teamed with the oiled wood finish and modern fittings helps to maximise the style factor.

Convinced now that their children were more than adequately catered for, the parents were eager to create their own special en-suite luxury shower room. Accessed from the bedroom via a sand-blasted glass door the room features a very large shower cubicle. The sense of space is left undiminished because the whole shower cubicle is made in glass. The same mirror trick above the toilet doubles the apparent window size giving an impression of increased space. The room is rounded off by the large shallow basin backed with mixed brown mosaics to ground the modern luxury with a splash of earthy texture.
