Decorating a Family Bathroom

Let's decorate a family bathroom with a scheme that has New England influences. It's a fresh scheme with a lot of white but also has tones of Nantucket style grays and blues.

I've chosen a pretty fabric for a Roman blind on the window which gives a real focal point to the room. The thing with bathrooms is, other than the window blind, we rarely have any other type of fabric in the scheme.

The tiles are white to keep it fresh and the paintwork in this bathroom design echoes what they do in New England. The woodwork is painted with the colour the walls are kept light.

Here the walls are a creamy white colour to go with the blind and the woodwork is a soft blue. So paint all the woodwork in the blue and keep the walls in this fresh white colour. This gives your bathroom design a lot of character.

For the floor I've chosen ceramic limestone-effect floor tile and I would suggest this in the size no smaller than 40 by 40 centimetres. These tiles are very practical, they won't stain and they're very easy to maintain. You don't need to use sealant as you would with real stone flooring.

For the walls, I like bevelled white ceramic tiles. Or you can use smaller tiles which don't have the bevelled edge. Fix the tiles all around your bathtub area and as a splash-back behind your basin.

And there we have it, a very calm and bright New England bathroom.
