Bathroom Design

On the top floor of a Fulham townhouse we found a main bedroom and a spare bedroom, each with its own small en-suite bathroom. Luckily the en-suites were back to back and the client's desire for a larger bathroom design for the master bedroom was within reach.

The "Before" pictures help to illustrate the structural transformation that took place.

In the first view the wall against which the bath stands is the partition wall that separates the bathrooms. The same wall can be seen from its other side in the third view.

Having been thoroughly briefed by the client, the next stage, as always, was the drawing board. We use manual techniques for most of our drawing work. During the initial design phase it serves to involve the designer in the space they are manipulating. Firstly the walls are (theoretically) removed and the new layout decided upon using a plan drawn up from site survey measurements.

To the left of the new bathroom is the door from the master bedroom. The old partition wall is marked with the double dotted line bisecting the new bath. To the right of the drawing is part of the spare room which has gained some space from the relocation of the other wall (old partition is again shown with double dotted lines).

Once the bathroom design is finalised, an elevation of each wall is drawn up to help the client visualise the new space.

Once the design is accepted it's on with the job! Building work and installation on a project like this can take six to eight weeks and it's always going to cause some inconvenience. But this particular client was very happy with the result - a luxury bathroom to enjoy at leisure...
